Variety is the spice of life. In the butterfly house at Marine World, we saw a wide array of butterflies. It was fun and amazing.

Show Time

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

With a Friday in May off from school we visited Marine World for the first time in several years. The girls weren’t interested in the rides; they were totally interested in the animal shows.

With the show program in hand, we scheduled our day, planning to go from show to show. It took us from opening at 10 a.m. to closing at 7 p.m. to see all the shows and hop on a few rides. Our favorite shows included:

  • The Dolphin Harbor Show

  • Shouka’s “Splashtime” Show, with antics by Shouka the killer whale and Merlin, an Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin

  • Seasil and Odie in the Bermuda Rectangle, with California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals

Dolphin Dreams

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

At Marine World Jackie rekindled her love for dolphins.

Her main desire for the trip was the touch a dolphin. We told her she probably wouldn’t because they didn’t have a feeding and touch area for dolphins at Marine World like they did at Sea World. Marine World has changed in a few years since we last visited and they do now have an area where you can pay $5 and get 5 minutes to touch and feed a few small fishes to a dolphin. It was worth it. Jackie was delighted to get five minutes with a dolphin.

Splash

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

Editing photographs can be fun and sometimes I notice things I had not seen beforehand.

As I looked at the photographs of the dolphin show at Marine World I was instantly struck by the amount of water splash the dolphins make. Even on a normal jump, the splash is incredible. Here are some photographs that show water splash:
